Hi all, regarding the New window feature previously available in Accountant tools:
On 8/21, we made the New window feature, previously in Accountant tools, available in the new QuickBooks experience based on accountant feedback. To access New window, you can customize your My menu navigation tool and add it to your Tools.
My menu (briefcase icon) is a new powerful navigation tool for QBOA users to create your own personalized navigation, including bookmarks, create (previously +New) actions, and tools (previously Accountant tools). We launched my menu to provide QBOA users with more customization and efficiency. Learn more about how to customize My menu here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/small-business-processes/use-accountant-tools-features-quickbooks-online/L5rizTAvS_US_en_US
We previously decided to remove the legacy feature "New window" as it has less functionality than duplicating a new tab from a web browser. We’ve found that major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge) all have functionality to duplicate a tab, in addition to additional functionality such as keyboard shortcuts and other movement/ organization functionality such as grouping, arranging, and moving tabs between windows. We will continue to evaluate the feature in the future.
For years, accountants have asked us to offer drag-and-drop abilities for attachments in the bank feed. We’re excited to share that as of today, you can! This feature is available to everyone using the new bank feed. You can drag a file into one of the rows, or if you click into a transaction, you can drag the file into that transaction.
We’ve also added a new access point for the files inside of the transaction, so when you click into it, you can more easily see where the files went.
This is purely an interface change, and nothing about the way the attachments work has changed. In particular, we don’t support adding attachments to matched transactions, and those will turn red if you try to drag attachments onto them. Similarly, we don’t support carrying imported attachments over to matched transactions, though that’s something we’re actively working on.
As always, our goal is to help you move through the bank feed as quickly and efficiently as possible with the minimum number of clicks. We’re excited to see how you use the new feature!
Drag and Drop Attachments
One of the most important aspects of the software we build is performance. Performance means speed, but it's not just how long the page takes to load. How long does the page keep you waiting when you post a transaction? If you select a checkbox, does it "check" right away, or do you have to wait a fraction of a second before you see it change? When you type, do the letters appear instantly? How "snappy" does the page feel?
These types of performance questions have always been and will always remain important to us. However, we've heard you loud and clear that — depending on various conditions, like the client file you're working in, the computer and browser you're using, and even the strength of your internet connection — the new bank feed experience can be slower than the old one, meaning performance improvements deserved special attention in light of the latest release.
Our teams have been hard at work addressing this problem, which has been our #1 priority across the bank feed since the general release earlier this summer. We're not finished, but we want to share some very meaningful progress. Since July:
  • The median time to load the bank feed is
    down 56%
  • The median time to select a transaction is
    down 75%
  • The median time to open/expand a transaction is
    down 61%
We've collected these numbers across the millions of customers using the bank feed, but we also feel it in the product testing we do ourselves every day. Particularly on older and slower computers, the bank feed is reacting a lot faster than it did before. We know we can do even better, and there is more work to do, but we hope you've noticed the performance improvements and look forward to additional improvements to come, helping you spend less time waiting for software and more time on your clients and the work that matters.
Many of you have shared feedback about editing transactions in the register: after you make an edit, the page scrolls to the very top, you lose your place, and you have to search back through the Register to pick up where you left off, repeating this process every single time you make an edit.
We've just released a change that will remember your spot, so after you make an edit, we'll scroll the register back to exactly where you were working. We know that time is money, and every second you spend scrolling back to find your place is a second you're not doing higher-value work for your clients.
Give it a try in the Register and let us know what you think!

We have refreshed the
Reorder accounts
functionality in the bank feed. The old version was difficult to use and could be especially challenging when there were large numbers of bank feeds, requiring a lot of clicking and dragging. The new version keeps the drag-and-drop functionality you’re used to, but in a fresher and snappier interface, helping you reorder much more quickly and with fewer clicks. We’ve also moved the Reorder accounts button to the top of the accounts list, so you don’t need to scroll all the way down to reach it.
Pro tip: We have kept the feature that mirrors account ordering across the bank feed and homepage/dashboard. This means that if you reorder accounts in the dashboard, they will reorder in the bank feed, and vice versa. This ensures you don’t need to do the same reordering work twice. The reorder design also now looks much more similar across the two pages.

We have made some minor changes to the layout of the bank feed settings interface to make it more clear and intuitive to use. Your settings may vary slightly depending on the features enabled in your — or your client's — QBO company. No settings have been added or removed; they've simply been reorganized and/or relabeled to make them more clear. We have also not changed your settings or the defaults.
Here's what the new settings look like (again, this may not be exactly what you see depending on what is enabled in the company where you're looking):

transactions details 2
When we designed the new experience, one way we tried to bring efficiency to your workflow was to bring all the critical data fields and actions into the row for each transaction enabling you to post transactions without having to click into it and open up all the details.
When we moved these fields and actions into the transaction row, we removed them from the detailed view so you only had one place to go. But we heard your feedback that you want to
see all those options when you click into a transaction
and don't have to move your mouse back and forth between the top row and the details.
We know how important
Categorization History
is to make consistent categorization decisions, so we brought that right under our AI suggestions. You should also notice that when a payee (From/To field) is populated, our AI will use the Categorization History to make a better recommendation.

We take performance very seriously. We can make all kinds of improvements to streamline the workflow, but if you can't load the page or post a transaction quickly, what does it matter? We have introduced some major performance improvements and will continue until we become the snappiest software you use.
300 txns per page
When we launched, we observed our performance was not meeting our standards. We had to make a short term decision to limit the page to only 50 transactions. We know this isn't ideal and we never want to take away features or take a step back. With our recent performance improvements we are relieved to allow you to customize your bank transactions table to
show up to 300 transactions
once again.
Another benefit of our performance improvements is the ability to scroll through the list and
"freeze" the column headers
. Now when you scroll down the list you can easily keep track of what information is shown in each column.
Based on your feedback we quickly made changes to make the bank transactions list easier to read and scan, bringing back some familiar elements like the green color for matches.
Matches are now green!
matching 2
We heard you loud and clear - it was harder to quickly identify which transactions are matches. We brought back the green text and bolded it to stand out more. And we noticed that matched transactions weren't fitting nicely on the screen. You can see how the transaction details are now spread across multiple lines when they get too long..
We tweaked the different fonts to make much of the bank detail stand out and to deemphasize things like "ghost text" for fields that need you to make a selection.

Some additional changes include:
  • "Zebra striping" so the rows alternate colors
  • The match/categorize toggle was adjusted to stand out more
